Clinical Psychologist

Paul has been working as a clinical psychologist for the last twenty-five years with the last sixteen years being in full time private practice at the Bealey Centre.  With initial involvement in Wellington Youthline and 20 years in mental health nursing, Paul was fortunate to be part of the setting up and development of the Cognitive Behavioural Programme at Kia Marama, Dept of Corrections.  While there he completed his clinical psychology training which he took to the CDHB Anxiety Disorders Unit for eight years.

Paul predominantly works from a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy psychological (CBT) model.  Along with the team, Paul regularly takes referrals from general practitioners along with a number of other agencies.  Paul is a member of the EMDR Association of Australia and often uses this treatment strategy when dealing with the effects of trauma in its various forms, as well as other psychological difficulties.

Paul has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of persons with Forensic related difficulties and works closely with lawyers to provide psychological consultation with them and their clients. He has previously worked as a “preferred provider” to the Department of Corrections.

Paul has been a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists (MNZCCP) since 2002.
